Gopal Abaji Deshpande
Mr. G. A. Deshpande was born in 1899. He received his early education in the New High School, Poona. In 1921 he graduated form the Tilak University. As a student he took keen interest in social welfare work. For six years he worked as a teacher in the Chinchwad National School.
In 1930 he participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement. He was appointed the Director of Poona. He was arrested and sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 200. After his release he was again imprisoned for a year and a half. Then he worked on the staff of the "Navashakthi". Soon after he became the Secretary of the M.P.C.C. Again he was returned to that office unopposed.
He is a man equal to his task by his merits and character. Gifted by nature with an upright heart and an honest mind his experienced knowledge of politics has united itself to the enthusiasm of a worker.
