A survey of some of the important inscriptions on stone and metal found in Karnataka, their content, language and script, and authorship. Epigraphic records begin from the time of Ashoka (3rd century BCE), and spar across the Satavahana, Kadamba, Chalukya, Pallava, Rashtrakuta, Kalyana Chalukya, Seuna, Hoysala, and Vijayanagara periods.
